How long does an MOT take?

When should I book my MOT?
You can book up to one month (minus a day) before your current certificate expires and still keep the same renewal date. We recommend booking early to secure your preferred slot and leave time to address any advisories.
What if my car fails?
We’ll explain exactly what’s failed and what needs doing — in plain English, with no pressure. If we can carry out the repair, we’ll give you a clear, honest quote before any work begins. You always have the final say.
Do you offer a pre-MOT check?
Yes. A pre-MOT check lets us identify potential issues before the official test, saving you the cost of a retest. We particularly recommend this for older or classic vehicles that haven’t been on the road regularly.
Do older classic cars need an MOT?
Vehicles manufactured before 1 January 1980 are currently exempt from the annual MOT requirement — though they must still be roadworthy. If your car falls into this category, we can advise you and carry out a voluntary inspection or pre-sale check if needed.
Can I drive without an MOT?
No — driving without a valid MOT is illegal and can result in fines of up to £1,000, penalty points, and invalidated insurance. The only exception is driving directly to a pre-booked MOT test.
